About Acumen Nutrition

Kelly Crout, C.N.C.

As long as I can remember, I have been interested in leading a healthy lifestyle through exercise and nutrition. I believe that food has the power to heal—or the power to hurt, depending on your choices and unique body chemistry. It was not until I was diagnosed with gluten, dairy, and soy intolerances (just to name a few) that I began to understand that what is nourishing for one person might not always be nourishing for another. In fact, the same foods can be detrimental!

My journey into the nutrition field began with a personal dilemma. In my early twenties, I began experiencing symptoms including severe heart racing and palpitations, ice cold extremities, and loss of peripheral and sometimes complete vision, fatigue and weight loss. After normal results on EKGs and other tests, modern medicine diagnosed me with “anxiety attacks” and called me a “nervous new mother.” I thought it was strange, as I did not feel anxious, and as my child grew up, my health problems continued. I continued to seek the true cause. It took 20 years to find what would eventually be diagnosed as Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis: an autoimmune disorder associated with disruption of normal thyroid function, intolerance to gluten, and intolerance to other foods. This sparked the need for a deeper understanding of health and nutrition—not only for myself, but so I could help others along the way!

Along with extensive research and quality medical care, I have been able to reverse the autoimmune attack on my thyroid and greatly improve my overall health. But feeling better wasn’t enough! Based on my personal progress in my own health and wellbeing, I wanted to arm myself and others with more knowledge. I enrolled in the Bauman College of Holistic Nutrition and Culinary Arts, receiving my Nutritional Consulting certification and my National Association of Nutrition Professionals membership in August of 2013. Since then, I have provided nutrition consultations with many people, helping them to find natural and holistic ways of taking control over their health.

My greatest passion and desire is to transform my life’s knowledge and education of holistic nutrition into a collaborative tool that can help others who have been left behind by traditional medicine. I was the staff Nutritionist with Brain Balance in Golden, CO, helping families of children with special needs through diet and nutrition. I am continually amazed by how much nutritional changes can affect children’s health and wellbeing.

I love teaching clients how to discover what is best for their individual health and vitality. There is no “one size fits all” in nutrition, but there are plenty of pathways to health. Health continues to be a priority even in my spare time. When I’m not working, you can find me doing yoga, hiking, and creating new recipes to support my healthy lifestyle!

To find out how you can improve your nutrition and wellbeing, consult with a nutritionist in Denver and develop an individualized plan. I would be happy to help start you on your journey to wellness! Please call to discuss how I can help you attain your health goals!
